Tiffin Boiz Australia Tour
Christmas 2023
@Mezo King

Following some very enthusiastic beer-fuelled conversations, in particular with Mike & Jack, I'm planting this seed early.

Here's a wee preview of the sort of things we could get up to (though I'd suggest building something specific together closer to the time, for those who are keen).

Most of all...
...It was beyond great to see you all over summer, and it would be  even more epic to have you all come see my new home.
I've been here coming on 6 years. Who knows where we will all be in another 6. Plan this holiday like it's your only chance.

Here's a look at some options...

Bear in mind that Australia is about 80% the size of the entirety of Europe. It takes 5 hours to fly East to West, 4 hours South to North. I'll have lived here 6.5 years by the time this trip happens, travelling 3+ times monthly, and I reckon I've covered <10% of what's on offer. Therefore I suggest we see some highlights, after which everyone is - I hope it goes without saying - welcome back to stay and see more whenever you like.

Given the peak holiday season, almost all suggestions (unless marked "$") could include free accomodation and activities if you wanted to make use of these. For reference, at this time of year temperatures will be low-mid 30s in the Queensland destinations, high 20s-low 30s in Sydney and mid-high 20s in VIC/TAS. That being said, we did have 10 days over 45 two years ago...

Barambah Station, Country Queensland

Accom: Barambah Homestead

Image: Porch at BH

On a list of the best places on earth, Barambah comes a close 2nd only to Henley.

The privately owned land covers the area of 70.4 Richmond Parks, featuring Queensland's largest winery & olive grove.

Think cook-ups by the turtle-filled creeks, dingos howling in the distance as Goannas and roos go by. The farm sleeps 100+ in pretty comfortable luxury. There's cattle, horses and 8 dogs.

We spend our days here shooting, hiking, cooking, snoozing, mud-skiing, racing cars, finding wildlife and exploring the gin distillery & winery. The friends that own it are often around and beyond welcoming.

Noosa, Queensland

Accom: AirBnB $

Image: Noosa Main Beach

With a Sea Temperature of 29°c throughout summer, Noosa is the ultimate Aussie beach paradise.

Restaurants (see Bistro C) open up straight on to the sand, while underwater visibility is near unlimited. Koalas inhabit the national park coastline skirting the upmarket town.

Highlights include Hastings Street restaurants and bars, the surf and sunset boat cruises (conveniently super cheap).

It's also <2 hours drive from the farm so easy for a day trip if you want to save on accomodation costs.

Sydney, NSW

Accom: Will's House & Friends'

Image: Sydney Harbour

Not just another big city, Sydney is the safest English-speaking city on earth. In 2 years living here i've never once locked my doors.

From Paddington (my home) you're 5 mins to the nearest harbour beach, 8 to the nearest ocean pool & beach, and 10 mins walk to the city.

Highlights in Sydney include riding the Manly Ferry ($2.50) half an hour across the harbour, spending the day exploring a mini reef, lounging in a beach bar and then getting silly over a phenomenal feed. You'll never eat a bad meal here, even in the grottiest looking places.

What to do in Sydney.

Jervis Bay, NSW

Accom: Camping

Image: Hyam's Beach

A quick 3 hour drive south from Sydney via the Royal National Park lands you in "the world's whitest sand" beaches.

Jervis bay is a mostly untouched national park. Think camping on the sand, exploring the forest and cooking dinner over a fire on the beach.

Plenty of epic surf here, too.

Walkerville South, Country Victoria

Accom: The Beach Shack

Image: View from the shack

If there are just 2 places you see in Australia, here and Barambah have to be it. Walkerville south is at the end of a 30 minute dirt track, with just 18 small plots of inhabited land. We eat dinner on the beach or under the trees; breakfast in the treehouse. The whole village swims at sunrise and shares various boats/kayaks.

Almost all the villagers descend from the same French family, so the whole village speaks the language. Residents include the band Parcels during most summers.

Wilson's Prom is round the corner for more spectacular scenery, and a huge population of wombats & emus.

Wineglass Bay, TAS

Tasmania

Accom: Camping

Image: Wineglass Bay

A bit out of the way from the other East Coast destinations, but Tasmania is like a mini New Zealand. Super welcoming people (you'll go for a walk and end up at dinner with a dozen strangers), mountainous terrain and wade-in Oyster lunches. Not to mention the only Tassie Devils in the world.

Perfect place for a bit of time together if you're coming with a partner as it's scattered with some of the top rated accomodation on earth.
